"SOCIALLY MOTIVATED, BUSINESS MINDED"
n February of 1966, nine individuals pooled their efforts for the production of low- cost housing for senior citizens in Houston. The organization began life like any other faith-based organization except that the founding members came from diverse religious backgrounds, primarily Jewish, Catholic and Protestant. Working together, a group of civic leaders established the Houston Inter-Faith Housing Corporation as a nonprofit organization, a pioneering move in 1966.

| Carver Courts was the first property purchased by Texas Inter-Faith in 1966. It was a Seniors property that was donated to Habitat for Humanity in 2000. |

Over the next three decades, they acquired properties, and provided supportive services along with the basic necessities of food and shelter. Houston Inter-Faith thereby earned the appreciation and respect of their tenants, religious communities and the City of Houston. They persevered through the economic challenges of the 70's and 80's and expanded their mission to include low-income families. The organization began to grow rapidly in the mid-1990's when JOT Couch Jr. became Executive Director.

| Washington Courtyards Apartments is a new development built in cooperation by both two non-profit entities. One of the unique amenities in the courtyard offered by this mixed-income community is a 'life size' chess set. This development was a finalist in the Houston Business Journal's Landmark Awards. |

The organization was renamed Texas Inter-Faith in 2001 to expand it's scope of operations statewide. The organization currently provides 3,309 units of affordable multifamily housing solely or in partnership, manages 2,163 units, provides supportive services for multifamily developments totaling 12,053 units and has several other developments currently in the pipeline.
In addition, Texas Inter-Faith is a member of Interfaith Charities, Inc., which is a partnership of B’nai B’rith, Knights of Columbus and Texas Inter-Faith. Its purpose is to develop and encourage respect, understanding, acceptance, trust and community among persons of all races and beliefs. Through the annual Mr. Sportsman Gala, over $250,000 for leadership scholarships and $1.2 million for community programs has been raised.
